CLIF is bringing new products and flavors to the healthy snacking market

At this point, CLIF Bar is pretty much a staple (or close to it) in the running and fitness community. Their bakery is only a state away (Idaho) and I feel they continually put out some of the best snack bars out there. Their bars are filling, yet not overwhelming, and they have enough flavor diversity to keep even the most diverse palates covered. I will admit up front that I will currently purchase CLIF Bars ahead of any other brand out there. I was pleased that we were sent a few items and flavors to try out for ourselves.

As a CLIF Bar “enthusiast”, I was intrigued to hear about one of their new creations – a Nut Butter Filled Energy Bar that aims to marry the bar with healthy nut butter filling. The result is an organic mix of unique flavors and 7 grams of plant-based protein (from nut butter, brown rice protein and pea protein). There’s no High Fructose Corn Syrups here. These felt a little smaller than a standard CLIF Bar sized and, while the flavors were definitely not bad, I felt they fell a little short from what I was used to. I will give these more tries in the future, however.

If you are looking for something a little more protein packed, CLIF Whey Protein Bar comes equipped with 14g protein with 5g sugar. We crafted it to help you maintain lean muscle while you’re planning your next big adventure. TI found these to be relatively filling as protein bars, which is really helpful when fueling during training, or for utilizing in the back country as a packable and healthy snack, two things that don’t often go hand in hand. I found their new flavors are very delicious.

CLIF BLOKS Energy Chews are a relatively new addition to my fueling repertoire. Energy gels are quick and easy, but I am a firm believer that sometimes you need some diversity in your life to keep things interesting. CLIF Bloks are no exception. As a gummy bear ran, these feel like a combo between gummy goodness and a jello shot (sans vodka). Each cube is just over 30 calories and are relatively easy to pack in a pocket or pack for taking in some calories and electrolytes while out on the run. Their new flavors (Ginger Ale, Spearmint, and Salted Watermelon – which has 2x sodium) are more “out there” than anything I have tried before.

I anticipated not being a fan of at least two of the three, but I was pleasantly surprised by all. The Salted Watermelon was definitely tasty and the Ginger Ale had more “ginger” than “ale”, but was still not overwhelming. The big surprise was Spearmint – a flavor I like, but didn’t think I would like it in a Blok. False! The taste was mellow and fresh and is a good mostly non-sweet flavor profile.
