The 3rd annual Let Freedom Run 5K is hosted by a dynamic group of kids in our area with a mission to end modern day slavery. The student-run non-profit, Youth Ending Slavery, hopes to spread awareness of this difficult topic and bring to light that Portland and the surrounding suburbs is one of the largest juvenile trafficking hubs in the U.S. The group hopes to empower youth to be advocates for change.
The race will take place memorial day weekend on Sunday, May 28th. The 5pm start time should help anyone hoping to sleep in on Sunday and be late enough in the day to not interfere with weekend plans.
Head over to Forest Grove High School track and enjoy the professionally timed race. Although I am unaware of the exact route of the course (or if it will be located solely on the track), it is described as flat and fast. Free finishers photos will be available to participants as well as music, prizes, and awards. It sounds like a good time for a good cause!
