Race Preview: 2016 Runtoberfest 5K (McMinnville)

This race is appealing on a couple levels, for the novice and the speedster alike. Chip timed by Huber Timing, with a relatively flat course and few turns, it is a great learning experience and potential pr course. Slated for October 1st, the the Runtoberfest is put on by the McMinnville Education Foundation. Registration is open now, the 5K is $25 and the kids (age 2-12) one mile run is $5. The kids run is before the 5K, which starts at 9 am.

The race starts and finishes at Wortman stadium adjacent to the high school in McMinnville. Day of event registration opens at 7:30 am and the price is $35 for the 5K and $10 for the kids run. Bib pick up opens at that time as well. The course heads east out of town through some residential neighborhoods and out into some industrial and rural roads before coming back into town. Usually well marked, there have also been cheerleaders and cross country runners from the high school serving as course marshals.

McMinnville is a big city in Yamhill County, but this is definitely a small town run. It’s not crowded and everyone is generally friendly. They are out to have a good time for a great cause and it shows. The 9 am start time allows the alarm clocks to be set a little later, and if the weather cooperated you will be treated to an amazing view of Mt Hood at about the halfway point. Register soon to save a few bucks and join us in McMinnville for a well organized run on October 1st.
