Dirt, grass, forrest and fields – that is what the Epic Grind obstacle run is all about. Small, local, family-organized (i.e. not a big, corporate, nationwide race!) and a community-based event. Yes, the Epic Grind is about that, too. In fact, this year’s race will benefit Gales Creek Camp, “a place where children and teens gain confidence in managing their diabetes.”

Epic Grind is a family friendly event. Occurring August 1 and 2 at Henry Hagg Lake (Gaston, Oregon), participants may choose to participate in the 5k or 10k obstacle race, and don’t forget the kids, as they have a kids obstacle run all to themselves.

Having a difficult time deciding between the 5k or 10k? Maybe this will help. Both distances will occur on dirt and grass trails which will take you through forests and fields. If you choose the 10k, you will also have a short road section; so make that dirt, grass and road “trails”. Also, 10k participants will have to endure additional obstacles compared to the 5k Epic Grinders. Nineteen. That is how many obstacles there are, which is an impressive amount. You definitely have to see the list of obstacles to believe it! A couple that sound particularly intriguing to me include “Walk on Water“, “Say Cheese” and “Tangled Mess“.

So, you’ve decided to take the challenge, you’ve had a hay-day running, jumping, getting muddy and wet, and now it is time for a shower. Nope! It’s not time for a shower, but it sure is time for the cool down party after the event! Participants 21+ (bring ID) will receive a free microbrew pour in your very own Epic Grind event pint glass. All finishers will receive the print glass; but those 21+ (with ID) will receive the brew, too. Participants will have access to post-race food, music, vendors, an event shirt, and the chance to score prizes.

Definitely get your friends and family together to tackle the Epic Grind. It looks like an amazing time!
