Race Preview: 2015 Pick Your Poison (formerly Lake of Death) 12 & 24 hour relay

All things considered, death by running doesn’t seem like too bad of a way to go out. At the 2015 Pick Your Poison Relay – formerly the Lake of Death Relay – we (as well as the RD’s) hope you don’t actually die, but we’d probably be OK to just have your legs and body become happily exhausted over the span of 12 – 24 hours of pure awesomeness.

Now, this isn’t a typical relay as there are plenty of options to decide on.  You can choose to run solo, or with teams of 2, 4, 6 or 8. Prepare to camp out at the beautiful Hagg Lake and participate in completeing as many loops as possible in the allotted timeframe. Teams can choose between the trail (14.5 miles) and road (10.7 miles) versions, but there is no switching midway though. There will be two aid stations along the course with a variety of fuel related products. But with a campground, make sure you pack the essentials – Hershey bars, marshmallows, and graham crackers of course!

Here is a list of all that is included in your entry. From their website:

  • Race entry
  • Finisher medal
  • Free camping Friday and Saturday nights
  • Voodoo Doughnuts Saturday morning
  • Breakfast Sunday morning
  • Bonfire
  • Movies with popcorn
  • Chocolate fountains
  • Music
  • Beer garden – first beer for those 21 and over included, additional are $3 each (please bring cash)
  • Food carts – you can buy food from the vendors
  • Real bathrooms with running, warm water
  • A lake to jump into after your lap
  • A weekend of fun you won’t forget

I think this sounds like an awesome time, as relays are typically spent driving from exchange to exchange. At this relay, the exchange is always at the same place, allowing runners to hang out, play games, and even catch some shut-eye.  And since there is no driving, there are NO lines of traffic or travelling logistics. Doesn’t that sound amazing?!
