Pizza Roma prepares for Coach Jim’s runners at a previous outing.
8a is not too early to go to a pizza place – at least not when that pizza place sponsors Coach Jim’s group runs!
That’s the situation for this Saturday, January 24, 2015, when Coach Jim and his runners take a tour of SE Portland for two runs totaling 18.6 miles.
First up is a run of 8.6 miles around Mt. Tabor, which is a great training run for anyone preparing for the ORRC Vernonia Half Marathon on April 12. The route runs north on SE 52nd Ave before heading east to go up and around Mt. Tabor and back. See the 8.6 mile route here.
Following a short break, there will be a second run of 10 miles. Starting out with a short out-and-back on SE 52nd Ave., the rout then heads towards Reed College and Eastmoreland. Winding through Sellwood, the route will pick up the Springwater Trail and then head back up towards Pizza Roma. You can check out this route here.
Where: Pizza Roma at 4715 SE Woodstock Rd.
What time: The run will start at 8a, so be there by 7:45 to use the potty and find your pace group.
Distance: 18.6 miles

You can RSVP and meet other runners through Coach Jim’s facebook page, too.
Be sure to bring along your hydration and nutrition. As your mileage increases, you may find an electrolyte supplement like e-caps work well for you; keep in mind that it’s a good idea to talk with experienced runners about how warmer temps can impact your nutrition plan.
