Wy’east Wonder-ing: Are You Ready to Race?

It’s almost time for the Wy’east Wonder! This beautiful race, brought to us by our friends at Go Beyond Racing, is a scenic adventure that shouldn’t be missed. The race will be held on Saturday, June 27th and there’s a 50 Miler and a 50k. Also, for the first time, there’s a 50k Relay that can be split between two runners!

The race features a course that’s point-to-point, mostly on Gunsight Ridge and Surveyors Ridge alongside Mt. Hood. Since it will likely be cold in the morning, you can wear a coat on the shuttle to the start and drop it off at the starting line. It will be transported to the starting line area of Red Barn Park so you can have it when you’re finished with the race.

Aid stations will have all the typical race foods and drinks including PB&Js, chips, pickles, gummy bears, Oreos, and fruit as well as Precision Fuel gels and electrolyte drink. All Go Beyond races are cupless, so plan accordingly.

The 50 Miler will start at Bennett Pass Sno Park at 6:00AM. Bib pickup will begin at the start line at Red Barn Park in Parkdale at 4:00AM. The course has 7,600 feet of elevation gain and 10,600 feet of loss, which makes it a net downhill course. Including the finish line, there are 7 aid stations.

Crewing is allowed for this distance, and can access their runners at the Aquaduct aid station at mile 18. Drop bags can also be accessed here and runners will pass through this aid station twice. There are 4 cutoffs in the 50 Miler race.

The 50k and 50k Relay will begin at 8:00AM at Bennett Pass Sno Park. Bib pickup for this distance starts at 6:00AM at Red Barn Park. The course features 4,300 feet of gain and 7,200 feet of loss, so it’s also net downhill.

The relay option allows a 2 person team to tackle the 50k course in two sections.. one runners will do the first 18 miles to the Aquaduct aid station and the second will finish from there for the additional 12.6 miles. Relay teams are responsible for their own transportation to the handoff area at Aquaduct, and can park in the 44 Trails Hub parking lot.

There are 4 aid stations along the 50k course including the one at the finish line. Runners must get to the Aquaduct aid station by 2:00PM and to the Gibson Prairie aide station (mile 25.7) by 6:00PM. There is no drop bag option for the 50k.

After the race, shuttles will bring racers back to Red Barn Park for the Post-Race Celebration. There will be burritos, Cascade Lakes Brewing beer, AVID hard cider, sparkling water, and good ol’ chocolate milk. Stick around the awards ceremony and see if you won a raffle prize. All finishers will get a Wy’east Wonder pint glass.
