Sunset-Inspired Durability: Exploring the Merrell Moab 3 Vista

Growing up in Utah, the word “Moab” instantly brings a vivid image to mind. For those unfamiliar, Moab is a small city situated near some of the most stunning national parks in the country, including the iconic Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. The Merrell Moab 3 Vista fits in well with this visual.

When I think of Moab, I picture deep reds and oranges, reminiscent of the breathtaking red rock formations in the area. Yellows and blues evoke the beauty of clear southern Utah skies, while purples complete the scene—you haven’t truly seen a sunset until you’ve witnessed the indigo hues cast over the southern Utah desert.

And, of course, I think of hiking. If you’re visiting Utah’s national parks and not logging a few miles on the trails, you’re truly missing out. All of these elements come together to make the Moab 3 Vista—especially in this limited edition colorway —a perfect match.

Looks:

The visuals are spot on, offering a fun and unique option for your feet. While it’s not overly bold with funky colors, it’s definitely distinct and adds a playful vibe to your hiking gear.

Fit and Construction:

Let’s be clear right off the bat—this is not a crossover hiking/running shoe. While we’ve tested a variety of shoes over the years that can blur those lines, this isn’t one of them. The Moab 3 Vista is a rugged shoe with a substantial Vibram outsole (complete with 5mm lugs) and a thick upper made from mesh and pig suede leather.

That means it comes with a bit more weight. It’s designed for serious time on the trails, built to handle rocks, sticks, and the elements with durability rather than nimbleness. Even though it looks sort of blocky from the outside, the inside is very nice. There is really nice arch support, and the tongue is supple and provide a nice secure feeling on the feet to keep them locked in.

This is a very solid hiking shoe that we have no doubt is in it for the long haul.
