Empowerment in Motion at the 2024 Girlfriends Run Half Marathon, 10K, & 6K

I’m not trying to betray all my male friends by saying this, but an all-female event carries with it a special vibe that can’t be found anywhere else. While women can be just as competitive as men (if not more so,) they also excel in supporting and encouraging other women when the going gets tough. This translates well in an all-female running environment, and that’s really what the Girlfriends Run is all about.

The Girlfriends Run started when Joleen Skarberg was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, and she continues the tradition of running this race every year with her daughters, sisters, nieces, cousins, and (of course!) girlfriends to celebrate life and health. This race continues to raise money for better breast cancer diagnosis and treatment with the main beneficiary being the Pink Lemonade Project.

The Girlfriends Run, brought to us by Why Racing Events, features a half marathon, a 10k, and a 6k and participants can run or walk. There’s a kid’s race too, and they will enjoy the same perks as adults, including a shirt, medal, and goodie bag.

As to those perks mentioned above, since this race was specifically designed for women, the swag is too. The technical shirt you get with your registration fee is a women’s cut and design and the medals will be pretty cool too. There are also mimosas and other treats at the finish line, along with firemen waiting to congratulate you and post-run massages at the pampering station.

This race begins at 9:00AM, and it’s suggested you arrive by 8:30AM. There is a cost for parking along the new waterfront, but if you park downtown a few blocks away, you can avoid those fees.
