Thanksgiving may be the single day of the year with the most races to choose from. Certainly, the November holiday can boast the most races with the same name: “Turkey Trot”!
The Southern Oregon Runners will be hosting their annual Turkey Trot Run on Thanksgiving morning in Talent, Oregon. Come out this year to Cummins (previously Walmart) and support the SOU food bank as well. A portion of proceeds go to the SOR Shoes for Student Runners Program, which will provide shoes to the junior and high school cross country and track athletes who can’t afford proper running shoes.
Most Turkey Trot Races are 5ks, but you can earn another drumstick and extra stuffing guilt-free at this one, because in addition to the typical 5k, there is also an 8 miler! (If you’re a light eater, there’s also a 2 miler, and a free Turkey Dash for kids 8 and under).
If you find yourself in Klamath Falls in turkey coma, head over to the Moore Park Turkey Trot for quick 5k run or walk with the volunteer-based non-profit local running club, the Linkville Lopers. It’s a super budget friendly and family friendly event – just bring $5, which will be donated to the local food bank, or an unwrapped gift donation which will go to Toys for Tots.
The race begins at 9:00AM and registration opens at 8:00AM that morning. Strollers are welcome and the route is on paved roads.
Embark on a unique Thanksgiving adventure at the Wildlife Safari Turkey Trot, a spirited 5K run/walk set amidst the captivating backdrop of Wildlife Safari in Winston, Oregon. As dawn breaks, participants will traverse the Safari’s carnivore loop, where the sleek agility of cheetahs and the majestic presence of Sumatran tigers will be their companions (safely enclosed, of course).
Beyond the thrill of the run, this event promises an opportunity to give back, with proceeds bolstering the park’s vital conservation initiatives. Prizes await the swiftest contenders, while a special cheetah meet & greet promises an up-close encounter with these incredible creatures.
