Kora Bamboo Base Layer – A Bamboo Bliss for Adventurers

We first reviewed some gear from Kora way back when our website became its independent entity. Kora is a premier apparel provider who has a long history of working with yak wool. This is amazingly great fabric used to “create ultra-soft and breathable wool activewear for your year-round adventures”.

They recently released some bamboo based apparel and we checked out the Men’s Bamboo Base Layer SS Crew.

Visually speaking, the Kora Bamboo Base Layer gets a big thumbs up from me. It comes in an array of gorgeous bright colors, from Deep Purple to Cerise Red, or more standard options like white (reviewed) and grey.

The fit is more body-hugging (it is a base layer after all) so size up (or two) if you desire a looser fit. I generally wear a large, but have been going up to XL’s with some companies as it provides just a tiny bit more room this item, the XL works great as a baselayer, but there’s no way I would venture out with it as a standalone – unless I suddenly gained 6 pack abs overnight.

As a standalone piece it would be pretty flattering – the kind of shirt that looks good on and off the trail – but may necessitate multiple upsizing depending on your build.

When I received it, I was impressed by the little touches of luxury. This top may be on the pricey side ($90 for the short sleeve), but it looks and feels it too.

The triple step and zig-zag stitching, and the feel of the 90% bamboo and 10% spandex material, are a dream against the skin. It is hypoallergenic, cooling, and silky soft, it’s perfect for those of us with sensitive skin.

It got plenty of wear on some of those 90+ degree days here recently. It’s a true multi-season performer – cooling you in the heat and efficiently heating you up in the cold. It also has UPF-50+ protection, so you can venture into the sunniest adventures without worrying about sunburns.

The body-fit cut might require you to order up a size if you’re in between sizes or unsure. So, remember to consult their body measurement chart before hitting that order button. Also, some folks might find the price point a tad steep, but hey, quality and eco-friendliness come with a price tag – and I’d say it’s worth it.

Overall, the Kora Bamboo Base Layer Crew is a plant-based comfort sensation that every adventurer should consider adding to their arsenal.
