Although I’m not ready for a triathlon (yet), I am ready for the challenge of another evening race. I’ve learned from past summers that a 5K or 10K in the evening means no scary early alarm clock, no night-before anxiety, and no rush out the door to get to the race.
Instead it means a big accomplishment at the end of the day, a well-earned shower before bed, and lots of prayers to the sky for non-90 degree temperatures. Since I signed up, I’ve been crossing lots of fingers and toes.
If you want to join me for a sunset race, or try on a tri (#sorrynotsorry), you should look at the Columbia River Triathlon & Endurance Sports Festival coming up mid-August. Why Racing always puts on great events; they’re organized, well-supported, and have fantastic swag.
All of the events use Frenchman’s Bar as home base, so participants can observe the starts or celebrate the finishes of other participants. I’m definitely planning to get there early Friday evening for the Kids Triathlon. And participants who go the extra mile(s) and sign up for multiple events, there is a Beast Medal to be earned.
Or just enjoy one event and rest while gazing at views of Columbia River, Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens, and Vancouver Lake. Check out the event website for more details on each of the race options and how you can try a tri.
