This is the 8th annual year of the 2023 Run for the Oaks, which is taking place in Rickreall (15-20 minutes west of Salem), and you couldn’t ask for a more beautiful setting.
The courses, a 5k and a 10k, will provide a variety of terrains – paved, gravel, and also trails through Left Coast Cellars vineyards, gardens, and oak-laden forests and paved trails. The 10k run will begin at 8:30AM and the 5k run begins at 9:00AM. The tasting room, which will feature a wood-fired pizza oven and an outdoor wine bar, opens at 9:30AM, which is also when the live music begins. There is also a 5k walk option, which begins at 10:00AM.

While the race is relatively pricy (Approx. $50-$60), there is a lot included for your money:

I myself have been to Left Coast Cellars, and it’s worth the drive. It’s a family-owned winery and it’s a LIVE Sustainable Viticulture (certified environmentally and socially responsibly wine growing) and Salmon Safe Certified. Rest assured that when you register for this event, the money is going to a solid cause. Proceeds will go towards the Left Coast Cellars Oak Savanna Restoration Project. Here is a little bit about that:
Left Coast Cellars has over 100 acres of ecological compensation areas and 70 acres of old growth oak forest. Through time the forest has become populated with invasive species and our goal is to restore the forest to a native oak savanna. We have partnered with the US Fish and Wildlife Service. They will provide the technical expertise for the restoration as well as help us to match any funds we are able to raise ourselves with Federal and State grants. The forest will be a permanent wildlife refuge in the center of our estate and create habitat for native plants, wildlife, birds, and insects as well as improving the watershed.
Come check out Left Coast Cellars the day before the race for packet pickup from 12:00PM to 7:30PM and enjoy live music from 4:30PM to 7:30PM.
