The 2023 Starlight Run 5k is one of the largest “Fun Run” 5ks in Portland and follows a portion of the CareOregon Starlight Parade’s downtown route in front of more than 250,000 spectators. This race is going on its 45th year and all participants will receive a finisher’s medal as well as a free entrance into the Rose Festival CityFair if they show their race bib after the race.
This event will be held on “Starlight Night” which is the evening of June 3rd this year. The start and finish line will be at Waterfront Park at the corner of SW Natio and SW Salmon Street. Because it’s also the evening of the Starlight Parade, you should anticipate that there will be a lot of traffic in downtown Portland. Carpool if you can or take TriMet or MAX.
Headphones are discouraged and bikes, skateboards, strollers, and other similar vehicles will not be allowed. Animals will also not be allowed on the course. Costumes, however, are not only allowed but strongly encouraged. You will see costumes galore at this event (and might even feel left out if you are not wearing one!) This event is open to runners who can maintain a minimum 14 minute per mile pace, as this is not a walking event. Because this is part of the parade route, you’ll need to stay ahead of the excitement and you should also note that any bag larger than a football will not be allowed in the race area. Coolers, glass, alcohol, weapons, tobacco, and all other questionable items will not be permitted. Please do bring your own water, as there won’t be any water stations available on course, though there will be some at the finish line. It might be a warm summer evening, but much of the course will be in the shade of the tall buildings as the sun sets.
There will be an official clock at the start and finish line with the time, but because this is a “Fun Run,” there will be no official results produced or published.

- Packet Pick-Up: June 3rd from 4:00-6:00PM at Waterfront Park. (Costume Contest participants must pick up their race bibs prior to judging which begins at 5:00PM.)
