With the school supplies already stocked at Target, it must be time to start planning for fall (just ignore those 90 degree days in the forecast).
One of my newer fall racing traditions is to join in the Appletree Marathon, Half Marathon, and Sunset 5K. Thanks to the schedule for these races, you can participate in the 5K Saturday night and then the marathon or half marathon on Sunday morning and earn a bonus “Beast Medal.”
All of the Appletree events take participants through some beautiful portions of Vancouver, Washington, including Fort Vancouver and past the Historical Old Apple Tree. The marathon course is a double-loop of the half marathon, which is mainly flat with water stations every mile and a lovely few miles along the waterfront.
This will be the fifth annual Appletree and the race directors have lots of great things planned:
- Extremely Scenic courses highlighting the history of the community, the Columbia River and views of majestic Mt. Hood
- A “Run through History”
- Post Event Meal & Party
- All things APPLE – Apple Pie, Apple Cider, Apple Bling…Apple, Apple, Apple!
- FREE Beer courtesy of Deschutes Brewery
- FREE Apple Cider courtesy of Portland Cider
- Technical Runner’s t-shirt
- Finisher’s Medal
- Sense of accomplishment – Feels so good!
While “an apple a day keeps the doctor away,” there will be so many apples the third weekend in September that you may never see a doctor again!
