Simplicity Rules in the Falmouth Shorts from Tracksmith

Since their inception in 2014, Tracksmith has been crafting high quality running clothes that hint at a vintage look, while providing the latest in material benefits. We recently checked out their Falmouth Shorts.

While men’s running shorts seem to skew on the shorter end (think 5″ and under), there is something to be said about those of us who prefer a little bit more coverage. While longer shorts are generally seen as only for the “slower” runner, keep in mind that when Roger Bannister first broke the 4 min. mile, he did so wearing shorts that weren’t the minimalistic thigh-bearing ones that we see all over the tracks these days. I can appreciate a short-short, but a 6″+ short is really nice to have in the arsenal.

The Falmouth Shorts are a pair that showcases both comfort and versatility. Bottoms with a shorter inseam are often not able to be used as anything but on a track. I, with three kids, a blog to manage, and a full-time non-blog job, I am constantly fitting in my running wherever I find the time. This means I am very often finishing up a 5-miler and directly heading to the park to play badminton with the kids or going straight to a winery for a date afternoon with the wife. It’s nice to have a pair that can work well in all scenarios. They have a button enclosure that actually looks more like a casual pair of shorts, but still has the stretch and security of a running bottom.

That’s not to say that the Falmouth Shorts aren’t able to hold up to the rigors of running. They have all the characteristics necessary in this sphere – a lightweight moisture-wicking, four-way stretch, water-repellent nylon blend. The material definitely has some structure to it, but remains surprisingly light along the way. It’s clearly able to hold up to the rigors of multiple uses – not just on runs.

They do have an internal lined brief, which can be a benefit or drawback on multi-dimensional shorts, depending on which way you lean. I’d prefer them without a brief, but that’s just me.

Overall, these are a solid addition if you are like me and need some versatility in your closet. The price is pretty hefty, but people who know Tracksmith know that with the larger price point comes really well-made gear. This seems to be no different.

All right, off for an 8-mile run around the Gorge followed by a show at the Edgefield – and the Falmouth have me covered.
