The first time I tried on a pair of Brooks Glycerin running shoes a few years ago, I was instantly in love. Before that, I had a healthy respect for the love of Brooks in the running community, but they just weren’t for me. But to this day, I still own those original (now worn out!) Glycerins because I can’t bear to recycle them. Enter the latest and greatest version – the Brooks Glycerin 20. These shoes are still for runners like me who like supreme cushion without feeling weighed down. Super smooth transitions from toe to heel make them glide easily and the newest version has a nice wide platform.
What’s new in version 20? Brooks is always working on making things better, and these are no exception. The midsole has been updated, featuring nitrogen-infused DNA LOFT v.3 which is said to be their softest cushioning yet. In addition to new cushioning, the outsole has been improved, and there’s an all-new engineered mesh upper.
If you’re a neutral runner like I am, the Glycerins should be a good match. The cushion support in these as well as in the Glycerin GTS 20 (the trail version of the same shoe) is high on the Brooks scale compared to other models.
Though these shoes are said to be the softest in cushioning, you’ll never feel that your feet are unsupported or (worse yet) heavy. When I first put this version on, they didn’t feel as soft as I anticipated, but then I remembered how overdue I was for shoes and realized that was the structure I needed. I took them for a spin on the track, then out on the roads, and then out in the dirt and gravel and they felt great on all surfaces. They have a nice wide toebed and there were no issues. In short, they made my feet happy.
I’m also a big fan of this version’s colors. I received the Peacock/Ocean/Pastel Lilac shoes, and they look great in person. The lilac color is so subtle that those sections of the shoe almost look white. We all know that shoe color doesn’t really matter when you’re a runner, but it helps if you’re excited to try them on. These will be the perfect color for their July release! Take note and get ready!!
