If you’re alternating between excitement for Spring race season and dread when considering getting off the warm couch, signing up for the 2022 PRC Winter 5k might be the absolute best choice for you right now. This event, the 3rd and last of a Run With Paula Events race series, is a great motivator for many. It doesn’t matter that you missed the first two. You can still do the third and you won’t feel like you missed a thing.
It’s the same route, which takes runners from the Portland Running Company store in Beaverton through Fanno Creek and back again, and you’ll get the same perks. One water stop that you’ll hit twice, really cute long sleeved tech shirts if you choose to purchase one, snacks, coffee, and some warm soup at the end of the race. Even better, you will be surrounded by other runners who are all there to serve the same purpose.. to “never let winter win” and to get moving when it’s cold, rainy, and maybe even icy.
The out-and-back route ensures you’ll see all those runners who are faster than you as well as slower, and no matter your speed, you’re all in the race together, covering those same miles. There’s something about a sport where everyone can be on the same level in that way that is really special. Runners who train in the winter months are a tough breed of people and it’s always better when you’re not alone. Even better, this is the perfect opportunity to test out your race legs for the Shamrock Run or any of the other races coming not so far down the running road.
The second “live” race in the series this year was held completely outdoors, including check in and after-race food, and I’m sure Run With Paula will continue to monitor the situation and keep runners as safe as possible. However, if you don’t feel comfortable among others in this scary pandemic time, there is a virtual option as well! This way, you can still run or walk this race in the safety of your own neighborhood or wherever you feel comfortable.
