It can be hard to motivate ourselves to run this time of year, but a race can be a great way to get us laced up and out the door. Thankfully the 2021 Reindeer Run is back after a year off, so come out to St. Helens on December 4th and get it done!!
The Reindeer Run offers a Half Marathon, a 5k, and a 10k Run Walk and this event has been an annual tradition since 2010 before Covid-19 forced it’s cancellation last year. It’s back in 2021 and better than ever. As usual, the race will contribute back to the community with all the proceeds benefiting the Columbia Pacific Foodbank and the Meals-on-Wheels program through the St. Helens Senior Center.
The race will begin and end at the Columbia River Foursquare Church in St. Helens, which is about 30-45 minutes outside of Portland and 30 minutes south of Longview, WA. Parking will be available next to the church or in parking spaces across Commons Drive. The Half Marathon walkers and runners who anticipate taking longer than 3 hours will begin at 7:30AM, with the rest of the half marathoners starting an hour later at 8:30AM. The 10k runners and walkers will leave at 8:45AM and the 5k will be the last group to leave at 9:00AM.
All participants of the race will receive a nice long-sleeved tech Reindeer Run shirt and finisher medal. There is a costume contest (runners get a free entry to next year’s race!) and an indoor staging area to keep warm. There will be complimentary refreshments there as well as some music. Participants will have access to two massage therapists and a 20% discount on local hotel accommodations. Lastly, NEW this year, is the addition of live reindeer!!
There will be packet pick-up available on Thursday December 2nd and Friday December 3rd from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at the Columbia River Foursquare Church. If you’d prefer to wait until raceday morning, the registration table will be up and running at 7:00AM.
There will be a “bag drop” area to check-in your belongings if you choose not the leave them behind in your vehicle.
Due to the pandemic, all runners are required to mask up indoors and outdoors where social distancing is not possible. Masks are optional during the run itself.
5k participants will have an aid station at the turn around at McBride School and at the finish line. The 10k will have aid stations at 4 locations. The half marathon will have 6 places for aid. All the aid stations will have water, Gatorade, and a sani-can.
Please be advised that streets will NOT be closed for the event. Participants will run on the sidewalk on the right side of the road until they reach the McBride school. There will be volunteers out there and possible traffic issues have been considered, but please be responsible and watch out for cars and other hinderances. The course will be marked so follow the arrows and sandwich boards.
