This popular Thanksgiving run is staying virtual in 2021, but the tradition and spirit of giving will continue in support of local families in need.
Give n’ Gobble has been a Sherwood tradition since 2007, and in typical years draws around 2,500 runners on Thanksgiving morning. Popular with both the local high school athletes and families of all ages, the field is a great mix of competitive and fun runners.
As in 2020, this year’s race is once again run virtually. Distance options include 5K and 10K, with a generously discounted family package available to groups of up to 5 runners. Registration includes a t-shirt and your very own finish line ribbon, so you can make it official wherever you run! The cost of these can also be donated to the food bank, if you wish to opt out of the swag.
You’ll have a lengthy window to run and record your race, if you’re not able to get your miles in on Thanksgiving. Results need to be uploaded between November 20th and December 1st, and those with a Garmin or Strava link will be verified. When uploading your result, you’ll also have the opportunity to upload your own photos to the event gallery.
While virtual races aren’t able to get runners together physically, they offer great flexibility of time and location. This is a great way to take part in this Thanksgiving tradition – even if you’re out of town for the holidays!
Funds and donations from Give n’ Gobble go to Helping Hands Food Bank. To date nearly $400,000 has been raised from this event, along with 80,000 lbs food donations. The event also funds the Backpack Meals for Kids program.
