Thanks to Run Oregon, I get to participate in a lot of races, and I certainly have my favorites. Having seen it all in the last 15 or so years of running, I can confidently say that Go Beyond Racing puts on some of my absolute favorite trail races. Todd and Renee GET IT. They know what trail runners want, and they deliver for every single race. On Sunday August 15th, they will give it to the trailrats again with the 2021 Gnar Gnar 6 Miler.
The Gnar Gnar is a unique experience that should be on the bucket list for every trail runner. It’s JUST 6 miles. 6 miles! You can do that in your sleep, right? However, there’s something else you should know about this 6 miler.. If you sign up for this one, you’ll be running to the top of Mt. Hood Skibowl and then back down again. You will literally be ascending and descending a mountain. There’s 2000 feet of elevation to negoiate, but you’ll have such an amazing view of Mt. Hood and and the alpine slide down. Check out the course here.
Gnar Gnar is presented by Nike Trail, and it’s a beautiful journey. This year, Gnar Gnar is also the host of the 2021 USATF Mountain Running Championships, as well as the selection race of the US Mountain Running Team. What an honor!! However, you do NOT have to be a USATF member to run the race unless you want to be eligible for the national championship. This race is for everyone!!
The cost for Gnar Gnar is $70 through August 8th and $75 if you choose to wait until the day of the race to register. That’s IF there are any spots available then! There are no transfers to other runners or refunds. Photo ID will be required at bib pickup at Skibowl on race morning.
Women will start Gnar Gnar at 8:00AM and the men will take off 30 minutes later. The course will close to all runners at 11:00AM. Everyone gets a Gnar Gnar finisher medal, and the top three overall and age group winners will get special awards from Go Beyond Racing. There will also be USATF national championship medals presented at the awards ceremony which takes place at 10:00AM.
After you are done celebrating your race, hang out at Skibowl and have some fun! All runners can get discounted admission to the adventure park that day and there are so many fun and family-friendly adventures to be had, including mini golf, ziplines, an alpine slide, and a bungee trampoline!!
Since this year’s event is a USATF Championship race, poles are not allowed for the race. Carpooling, as always, is encouraged!
So come on out to Government Camp on Sunday August 15th and run an epic event!!!
