Oregon Brewery Running Series: July 2020 QuaRUNtine Virtual Distance Challenge

With ongoing uncertainty about larger group gathering, Oregon Brewery Running Series continues to fine tune and update its month-long virtual runs. Up next is the July 2020 QuaRUNtine Virtual Distance Challenge, which will run July 1-30. If you are not familiar with virtual racing, it usually means that you sign up for an event, run the distance on your own, and then receive the race swag after you complete the distance. Sometimes you are asked to submit your time, sometimes it is run on the honor system. While Virtual Races don’t have the same race day atmosphere as in-person events, its flexibility opens the event up to those who could otherwise not participate.

In July, just like during the previous months’ challenges, you will choose your goal distance, and you will earn swag based on percentage of completion of the goal. The goal distances range from 50 miles to 150 miles, so that you can properly challenge yourself! It is so easy to submit your miles, since OBRS has developed a Strava integration for these challenges. All you have to do is track your miles on the Strava app, then when you are invited to join the July Challenge, you allow OBRS to access your Strava activity in order to add yourself to the leaderboard.

The very first time you establish this connection, it will ask you about your goal distance for the month. You will have to re-visit the website and update the permissions to view your Strava workouts in order to update your leaderboard standings. As the month progresses, the leaderboard is updated, participants are encouraged to participate in online happy hour meetups, interact on Facebook and Instagram, and each week there will be a coupon for a takeout order from a local brewpub.

To get started, register for this event on Eventbrite, Join the club on Strava* (it’s Free) to verify your miles, submit your miles (more details on that in an email after you register), then win great prizes! A portion of the proceeds go directly to the #EmergeStronger Community Challenge, part of the Oregon Food Bank.

This month there are several levels for your registration: $45 gets you signed up for the challenge and eligible to win your goal prizes (see list below). $59 covers registration plus the “Life is Brewtiful” tshirt or tank.

THE PRIZES:

  • 25% of goal: Koozie or Coaster
  • 50% of goal: Buff/Facemask
  • 100% of goal: Free Run Entry or $25 Store Discount.
  • 120%+: 6-pack of beer or Life is Brewtiful BOCO Trucker Hat

(Mileage totals are counted from July 1-30, 2020)
