Race Preview: Uberthons Virtual Runs (replacing the seasonal events)

In a normal (i.e., non-Covid-19) year, Uberthons puts on four seasonal races, all with half marathon distance options, and one in the summer with a full marathon. All four also have quarter marathon options, and the non-summer ones have 5K as well. The Winter Event happened on schedule, but as with all sporting events in the state through August, the remaining seasonal races have been canceled.*

* Uberthons is still listing the Halloweenathon (late October) and Turkeython (late November) on its website, so there is still the possibility of live races later in the year, although obviously this will depend on the state of the pandemic in the fall.

In their places, Uberthons is offering up to three virtual races. You sign up for the event(s), choose your preferred distance(s) (1 mile, 5K, quarter marathon, half marathon, full marathon), and submit your result(s). There will be an online leaderboard for each of those distance options. Basic registration is $8 ($5 + a $3 fee) for one event with no medal, or $27 ($20 + $7 fee) for one event with a medal. If you want all three medals (there are three separate designs), it’s $73 ($55 + $18 fee), which is an $8 discount compared to registering separately for three races. Medals will be shipped to the address you provide.

There’s even a virtual bib that you can print out and wear for the complete race atmosphere.

If you already registered for one of the three canceled seasonal events, Uberthons is moving the registration to the 2021 events.

For the true Uberthons experience, remember that there are “wave” starts, which would be especially appropriate if you choose to do your virtual run with friends. Let the first person to start get at least six feet ahead before the next “wave” starts! And don’t forget race director Darwin Rasmussen’s reminder that if you don’t like the time you finish with, you can run again!
