Every Thanksgiving, thousands of people wake up extra early to run off the turkey before the eat it. It is an awesome tradition that makes us all a little more prepared to stuff ourselves with mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. But why wait till Thanksgiving morning? Why not get in a Thanksgiving race the night before Thanksgiving and give yourself more time to prep your turkey? Well, the Les Schwab Tires Turkey Trot Relay and 5K Run/Walk offers that opportunity.
Who doesn’t love a good relay and what better way to kick off a holiday? This event offers a 4-person relay in which each person runs two legs of ~2 miles each. So, each person is running a total of four miles. The relay course runs around the Portland International Raceway loop and offers plenty of opportunity to spot your competitors in front of you. If your team would rather walk, they have that option too but each walker will only do one leg of the relay.
If you’re not in the team spirit, run or walk the 5K which weaves around the raceway. There is also a kid’s race to kick off the event, so the whole family can get in on the fun. No matter which race you participate in, you will be running in the evening under the glow of Sunshine Division Winter Wonderland holiday light display.
Racers will receive goodie bags, finisher mugs, and a Nike Dri-Fit shirt. Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in the 5K as well as the top run and walk teams in the relay.
They advise you pick up your packet in the days before the race at their multiple packet pickup location times and locations but you can pick up your packet the day of the race if needed. Runners will receive a Nike Dri-Fit Race Shirt (if you register by 12:00pm on Friday, November 8th), a finisher mug, goodie bag, free pumpkin pie, and sponsor giveaways!
