What Run Oregon is Wearing: Balega UltraGlide Sock – releasing soon!

Balega has announced a new sock that is sure to garner quite a bit of interest called the UltraGlide. Balega is certainly not new to the running community by any means and they’re dedication to keep us on our feet (quite literally) is showcased with the UltraGlide.

The UltraGlide has created a solution to common running issues by using a mix of friction free yarn and their Drynamix® yarn to keep your feet dry and prevent blisters. The socks are anatomically shaped and also utilize a seamless toe for a perfect fit. You’ll also find the heel tab that is common with running socks to prevent chafing on your achilles. The UltraGlide also has a tab in the front for an even more secure fit. The socks have added cushioning for the ball of your foot and arch compression to give you a snug and friction free fit.

After testing these out in the summer heat one of the most impressive features I enjoyed was how dry these stay. Running a 10K in 85 degree heat is a perfect recipe for sweating, especially if you sweat as much as I do during summer months. While I have had issues with blisters on my achilles due to new shoes and “no show” socks in the past, these were a sweet reprieve as I was breaking in my newest pair. You’ll definitely appreciate the added cushioning where needed and Balega’s combination of Drynamix® and friction free yarn will keep your feet happy. According to Balega, the material will keep your feet cool in the summer and warm in the winter which I aim to find out in the next few months. As far as the claims to keep you cool during summer, I can attest to that.

While you can’t purchase the UltraGlide socks yet, they should be available sometime between August and early fall and will cost about $16/pair. I know I’ll be picking up a few extra pairs when they do. In the meantime, you can check out their promotional video below:
