If you live in Oregon, you know that running along the coast is a huge perk of living in the N.W. Running on the beach is even better and we are very fortunate to feel the salty air on our faces as we make our way across the sand, sun shining upon us or perhaps some misty or driving rain assaults us as we make our way in the distance. Whatever the weather, consider yourself lucky to be able to run on the beach!
Over the course of the summer, several events on the Oregon Coast will take place and North County Recreation District is hosting it’s 29th annual Beach Walk & Run 5K/10K on July 13th. The race will take place in Manzanita, Oregon and starts in a single start heading south towards Nehalem Bay Jetty. Runners will then change course and head back north towards the finish with the Neahkahnie Mountain meeting the sands of Manzanita Beach. The 1 mile kids race begins at 9:00am with the 10K following behind at 9:05, the 5K walk at 9:10 and the 5K run at 9:15. This timed race offers prizes for top finishers in each group will be awarded and a raffle for prizes will be given away post-race. Snacks, water and music provided by NCRD’s volunteers. All proceeds of the entry fees will be used toward NCRD’s continued mission of providing classes that are educational, recreational, social and physical well-being of the entire north Tillamook County community by offering activities for all ages and abilities in an inviting environment.
Drive down for the day or plan to make a long weekend out of it, enjoying all that the lovely coastal town of Manzanita and it’s adjoining communities of Nehalem Bay and Wheeler have to offer.
