If you’re a runner and enjoy racing, you may be tempted to give a triathlon a try. A traditional triathlon includes swimming, biking, and running. The City of Longview Parks and Rec and the YMCA of Southwest Washington are putting a twist on the old favorite in the Swim Dash Splash Triathlon on July 20th.
The race starts at the YMCA in Longview with a 500 yard swim in the pool. The starting times are organized into competitive and recreational heats. After the swim, you head across the street to the start of the 5k at the south end of Lake Sacajawea. The running course keeps you within the park for the entire distance as you circumnavigate the lake and end the 5k at Martin’s Dock. Here you hop into your kayak or paddleboard for the 3k paddle of the southern half of the lake. If you don’t have your own kayak, you can reserve one free of charge.
You can register as an individual for $50, or you can divide and conquer by entering as a team of two or three participants for $110. Registration includes shirt, lunch, and a free pass into the event Crafted Beer and Food Fest (for participants ages 21+) after the race.
