Runners are used to a little pain and suffering if they’ve been at it long enough, and there’s always been the age-old question in regards to injuries, aches, and pains.. Heat or Ice? Which is more effective? Moji, a company that makes innovative and quality rollers, wraps, and massage tools, has some great options, and according to their website “heat is the #1 treatment American College of Physicians recommends for muscle and back pain.” Though every kind of “expert” will offer numerous opinions about heat and ice and everything in between, my sports medicine doctor has a pretty solid belief in the use of heat. Heat helps relieve muscle pain, produces endorphins, increases mobility, and helps with oxygen flow, just to name a few benefits. And let’s be honest, it’s a lot more pleasant getting in a warm tub vs an ice bath.
When Moji kindly offered me the chance to review their MojiHeat Massage Roller, I was more than willing to oblige. I’ve reviewed their Curve Pro Massager and Foot Pro Massager in the past, so I know that they make great products, and since I’ve been running A LOT and the hilly trails have been beating me up a bit, I couldn’t wait to give the heated roller a try.
The first thing I loved about the heated roller is that it’s so incredibly simple. It’s a two-piece design that easily disconnects so you can fit it in your microwave. After a 3 minute zap (no more than 3 minutes and 20 seconds according to the instructions) it’s ready to go for up to 3 hours. It’s small enough to travel well, and it even comes with an insulated case, so you could microwave it, throw it in there and go somewhere and still have a heated roller ready to go when you reached your destination. You can either reattach the pieces for one long heated rod or use the two pieces separately.
I love that this product is both a foam roller and a heated massager in one. I’m a multi-tasker to the max, so I was thrilled to get a two-in-one option. The roller part, with or without heat, is very strong and it will serve these aching bones well. It’s got a textured surface that’s cushioned but sufficiently firm. Due to the size, you could use it on multiple body parts, including your back, your hips, your calves, your IT bands, and your quads. I find it most effective to put it on the floor and roll my body over it.
I wanted to test the claim that the MojiHeat roller would stay hot for 3 hours, so I timed it. I felt that it was solidly hot for a good 2 hours, and there was still some warmth after 3 hours, which was really very impressive.
Another benefit of Moji is that their products are made right here in the good old USA. There is also a one year warranty on all of their products from the date of purchase.
The cost of the MojiHeat Massage Roller is $69.99 and right now, you’ll get a Moji Heated small ball free. Like the roller, the ball heats up in the microwave and would be a great option for travel!
