Race Preview: 2019 Run for the Hills 30k/8k/2 mile (Corvallis)

Ah, hills. The bane of most runners, both experienced and new, on any given day. But if you love the challenge of running through the scenic wilderness conquering hills on some amazing trails, this is the perfect race for you!

Run for the Hills is offering three different race options: 30k, 8k or 2 mile run/walk. The 8k race winds its way up and down through Bald Hill Park on both paved and non-paved paths. The 30k adds on the extra hill climbing “go get ‘em!” paths through the lovely Fitton Green Natural Area and the Mulkey Creek Trail which offer amazing views of the surrounding area. Both of these courses are definitely above average difficulty when it comes to hills, so don’t run too fast at the start or you are likely to run out of steam. Trail shoes are also definitely recommended as well! When you get to the top of the first hill, you should definitely take a minute to catch your breath and take a picture – that burning in your legs will have been all worth it (and besides you need to catch your breath)! The 2 mile noncompetitive run/walk is on paved paths but still gives you some hills to work with and there is even a ¼ kid race too.  This race is in June which is typically when the great hot summer weather of Oregon starts up, but the race organizers have you covered with generous water and snack stations throughout the courses.

Run for the Hills race is relatively inexpensive compared to your typical race prices, making it a great choice for a weekend adventure or just a day trip. And better yet, proceeds of this event benefit the Greenbelt Land Trust Trail Fund. This fund helps purchase raw materials and equipment used for trail construction and maintenance by the volunteers who keep our trails safe and passable for users.
