Race Preview: 2019 Florence Half Marathon

What could be more inviting than sunlight shining through coastal trees?

Based on the course photos alone, The Florence Half Marathon looks like a fantastic experience. The combination of city streets, riverside roads, and park paths couldn’t be more inviting. The setting and views should evoke serenity and keep your mind off the efforts of the 13.1 miles.

Presented by Pink Buffalo Racing, The Florence Half Marathon is scheduled for Saturday, March 16th, and starts and finishes at Miller Park in Florence. The fully paved out-and-back course leads runners through town, then north alongside the Siuslaw River, followed by a two-mile tour of Harbor Vista County Park. From the park, runners continue north into the town of Heceta Beach to the turnaround, then head straight back south to the finish. There will be aid stations with water, Gatorade, and gels at the 1.5, 3, 5.5, 8, 10, and 11.5 mile marks.

This looks like a beautiful place to run (just watch out for that pole!)

The race will be chip-timed by Eclectic Edge Racing, and the top three men and women overall and in standard 5-year age groups will earn awards. The awards will be presented at the results table, and there will be no awards ceremony to keep participants from taking advantage of the coastal setting as soon as possible. There is a four-hour time limit for the race (18:19 pace). GreenLayer tech shirts with the race logo on the front are available for $15 during online registration through February 14th (GreenLayer shirts are generally really nice, and the logo looks cool, so I say go for it!)

The cool GreenLayer shirts are an extra $15.

If you like low-key small town races with scenic and interesting courses, you should strongly consider The Florence Half Marathon!
