Turkey Trot Race Previews: 2018 Great Turkey Fumble (Portland & Newberg) & The Turkey Trot Fun Run (Mosier)

There are 2 things that people often associate Thanksgiving with .. Food and football. If you’re a runner, there might be a 3rd tradition, and that’s a morning Turkey Trot before you enjoy those other 2 things. The 2018 Great Turkey Fumble incorporates both a morning 5k and a football game into your Thanksgiving morning before you go home to enjoy a day of family and food.

This race, which can be done individually or as a family, begins and ends at the Fat Tire Farm in Portland at 9:00AM on Thanksgiving Day morning with some challenging hills in the Forest Park Neighborhoods. Please wear some football fan apparel to the race and have fun making this a new family holiday tradition!! There’s a 5k run or a 1k walk, and each individual will receive a football rather than a race medal at the end. There will be Oregon specific football trivia along the way and 3 different football challenges. If you’d like to check out the family-friendly course, check it out here.

This race will benefit the Teen Services department of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metropolitan Area which caters to teen programs, workforce opportunities, and educational scholarships.  The cost of the race is $28 for an individual or $100 for a family of 4 or 5. Also, if you are a club member or a member of the staff or family of the Boys & Girls Club, you will get a discounted rate. T-shirts will be available to the first 100 participants and then available for online purchase if there are extras. Registration includes the shirt and a youth-sized football.

There is also a Great Turkey Fumble in Newberg if the Portland location doesn’t work for you.

This race has an out and back course from Hood River on the Historic Columbia River Highway starting at the Visitor’s Contact Station.
