Race Preview: 2018 Race to Remember: Veteran’s Day Half/11k/5k/1k (Vancouver)

Our veterans and their families make so many sacrifices in their service to our country. This Veterans Day, if you are looking for a way to celebrate our veterans and support a good cause, the 2018 Race to Remember: Veterans Day Half/11k/5k/1k/Virtual race provides miles of moments to reflect on the service and sacrifices of our veterans.

After Claudia Cardenas lost her fiancé, Jason Vinyard, a 20-year army veteran, she founded the non-profit organization “Race to Remember” to support and honor our past and present military heroes. Race to Remember Veteran’s Day is one of several race events throughout the year that honors those who fight for our freedom.

The race begins with the National Anthem salute to honor all veterans for their service. In the past, the race would lead out the Veterans Day Parade from Fort Vancouver, but this year the permit was not approved to lead out the parade. The starting line for all races is still at Fort Vancouver Way & E 5th Street.

Participants receive a medal and drinks and snacks at the finish line, along with a sense of accomplishment for helping veterans and their families who serve us all.

In addition to the race events, Race to Remember organizes military care packages and engages the community through projects such as “Soldier in the Classroom”, “Thank You Cards” and “Books for Soldiers.”  The organization’s long-term goal is to establish a college scholarship for the children and spouses of Fallen Heroes.

If you can’t attend the race at this date and time, there is also an opportunity to run a virtual race. Wherever you are on November 11th, take a moment of thanks for the sacrifices our veterans and their families make every day.
