The calendar declares its October and finally the temperature is in that beloved range where I can pull on a hooded sweatshirt after my run. I love this time of year and all of the racing options in it.
One race I just learned about this year is the Grants Pass Marathon. Don’t let the name worry you; there are full marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K distance options for this adventure. And if you have kids who like to run, there is also a costume race for them to participate in (wisely scheduled so that many of the grown-ups will be back to cheer them on).
All of the Grants Pass events are what the directors call “there and back” routes that primarily use a road bike route that is familiar and loved by locals. The longer distances will get opportunities to be out in farmland areas and run parallel to Rogue River.
And all of these opportunities are for amazingly low prices. A marathon for $45 is truly amazing. And if participants want a high-tech t-shirt, they can add one to their registration for $10 more. This event is not about the frills put on by a committee; instead its using all of the breathtaking (and free) wonder that is the Pacific Northwest.
