Race Preview: 2018 Love Rocks Run (Forest Grove)

I learned about Love Rocks about a year ago when I spotted a small stone with a fabric heart on it. The stone was half the size of my thumb, and the white fabric heart had little arrows all over it that looked like the way that I try to draw birds. Not knowing what I had found, I turned the stone over to find a website on the back that led me to a tragic story and a beautiful good work that started in Oregon, but was spreading around the world. Out of the loss of their daughters, a family was spreading a story of love and joy through these simple stone tokens. The reason the stone and story is still so fresh in my memory is that its been sitting on my desk ever since, an inspiration for when I’m writing and trying to find the right story.

The Love Rocks Run is a chance to be part of the story that this non-profit is telling. By signing up for the 5K run/walk, you are joining a community effort focused on love, joy, and small changes having a worldwide impact. The race is a fundraiser for the organization, and also very focused on being a family event. The kids 1K at 9am is perfect timing to get those kids moving before the grown ups hit a loop course around the school. Afterwards runners and community members are invited to join in the Community Fair where vendors will have lots of treats and treasures for sale.

If you want to be involved in the community, but can’t be in Forest Grove on June 30th, sign up for the Virtual Run instead. Virtual participants will be mailed a bib and race shirt before the event so they can show support on social media wherever they are.

All participants will receive two commemorative Love Rocks made specifically for this event.
