Race Preview: 2018 Twilight Run (Tigard)

Confession Time: When I first clicked on the link for this race, I was kind of expecting something about sparkling vampires. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, you are a stronger and more grown up person than I. If you totally get it, I’m forever Team Edward.

Luckily for all of us, the Twilight Run is so much better than I expected. Its an evening run that has great opportunities to include the family and celebrate post race with the Tigard Festival of Balloons. Add in all of the food and music promised, and this sounds like the perfect summer evening.

The Twilight Run includes a one-mile kid run at 6:30, then the 5K event that is mostly on paved bike trails around the park. The out-and-back courses provide lots of opportunities for your fan club to cheer you on. And with all proceeds gong toward Tigard Tualatin Schools, you should feel extra peppy in your running step. The 5K is only $30 until May 30th, and is capped at only 750 participates to get signed up soon. All participants receive a t-shirt plus free entry to the Tigard Festival of Balloons after the event (Don’t lose your bib! That’s your ticket).

You can get a preview of the fun by checking out the video from last year.

One last non-vampire detail that I have to share is that the leaders for this race are making sure it’s an inclusive event for our running and walking athletes:

Is the Twilight Run walker friendly? Yes! For this event we are planning to support participants up to a 19-minute per mile pace (~60 minutes for 5k). We will also make sure that both the first and last finisher has aid station support and finish line food.

As someone who has been racing the sweeper in an event, knowing that everyone will get to finish is an important quality. Go team go!
