Small Race Preview: 2018 Prineville Hotshot Memorial 5K/10K

24 years ago, on July 6th, 1994, a group of wildland firefighters from Prineville lost their lives fighting the Storm King fire in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Of the 14 men and women who died that day, 9 of them were from Prineville and were specifically known as Hotshots. For those who don’t know, Hotshot firefighters are an elite team of the most highly trained firefighters in the country and are regularly tasked with fighting the most dangerous and technical blazes out there.

Following the tragedy, several memorials were put in place to honor those who died. One of those is a run in Prineville called the Hotshot Memorial 5K/10K, that started that next year. This year’s race marks the 24th year and as usual, the races will benefit the Wildland Firefighter Foundation. There will be a BBQ in Ochoco Creek Park following the races.

When: Saturday, May 12th. Races start at 10am

Register: 5K/10K = $25.00. Register online at Active
