Saint Patrick’s Day falls on a Saturday this year, and there is no shortage of Irish and green themed races on that day. But if you’re looking for something to run on the following weekend, the Couve Clover Run is scheduled for Sunday, March 25th. The event’s start and finish is in front of Main Events Sports Grill in downtown Vancouver, where parking is free on Sundays.
The Couve Clover Run offers three distances: The 3+ miler (which at 3.06 miles is not quite a 5k), the lucky 7 miler, and the 10 miler. The courses for all three distances starts the same: From the start on Main St, participants head north for one block, then turn right to head east, across I-5 (the highest elevation of the course) and into Fort Vancouver on Evergreen Blvd. A right turn leads down the hill towards Pearson Airfield, past the historic Fort, and on the pedestrian bridge across Hwy 14.
After coming off the overpass, just before the 2 mile marker, the course splits: The 3 mile course turns right, under I-5, along the river for about half a mile, then turns right again, uphill into downtown Vancouver and along 8th St to the finish on Main. The 7 mile and 10 mile courses turn left, and they run 2 and 3.5 miles, respectively, on the flat path along the river to their turnaround points, then rejoin the 3-miler’s course for the last mile of the race.
Finisher’s will have no shortage of food and recovery options: there is beer at Main Event courtesy of Deschutes Brewery; soup, fruits, and rolls & donuts courtesy of Franz Bakery; coffee, hot chocolate and treats at Boomerang Coffee Shop; massage and stretching at Union Chapel. These three locales are right next to each other on Main St. between 8th and 9th.
