Run Life: A New Run Training Program Just in Time for Running Season!

This time of the year is the hardest time to stay motivated to run. It’s cold, it’s windy, it’s wet, and sometimes it’s even icy. But the Shamrock Run, which many Portlanders consider the unofficial start to race season, is right around the corner, and if you’re planning on putting in some mileage, training needs to start NOW.

You may or may not know that in addition to being a runner, I’m a group exercise instructor for Baby Boot Camp, and they have always offered a running training program as an extension for those who want to get out and run. I’ve posted about their program in the past  (See my old blog post here,) but there’s a new program replacing that one starting up January 22nd that is even better. It’s called Run Life, and it’s a part of a bigger picture called Fit Life (more on that later) and it’s got a lot of the same awesomeness the old program had but with more options for everyone.

Run Life  is an 8 week running program that will be offered several times throughout the year, and it’s centered around training for races like the previous program through Baby Boot Camp was. You’ll get amazing track workouts to improve your speed, your stamina, and to get you all ready to rock that next race, whatever that might be. You’ll get a customized plan depending on what your goals are and a running coach there to answer any questions you might have about all things running-related. But even better, this program will now offer you the choice of either an early AM or an evening training, so you can find the one that best suits your busy life.

The Run Life program will, as previously mentioned, start at the end of January to get ready for The Shamrock Run, and there is an “add-on” if you are looking to extend your training or if you want to get some spring marathon training. The training doesn’t have to be specific to Shamrock or any other race. You can, in fact, train for anything you wish and you will get a customized plan when you sign up, depending on what your running goals look like. There will be more sessions offered in the future, so check back to see if there’s one that fits your schedule if the Shamrock training does not. Or, sign up again after Shamrock for the next one (you’ll get a discount for returning,) and you’ll find yourself in good company because most of the runners are hooked after the first one and continue to come back again and again.

Since we have all levels of runners joining our group, there will now be 3 programs to choose from. The first option is a “Build Up” program for people newer to running or for people who are just getting back into running. This is also the group for people who maybe aren’t wishing to break the sound barrier with their speed yet. The second option is the “Speed Up” program, which is meant for our more seasoned runners who have taken the run training programs from us in the past or who are trying to increase their speed. In addition to these options, there will be a “Mixed Program” option, which is pretty similar to the old program where everyone is intermixed into one group. This is great if you aren’t sure where you fall or if you are wanting to improve but don’t feel ready for the “Speed Up” program yet. I’m excited to announce I will be teaching the Monday morning mixed group at 5:30AM if you are looking to get a jump start on your week! All of our instructors are amazing, so check out the schedule of locations, dates, times, and options on the Run Life schedule.

As for Fit Life, this is a new adventure I’m taking in the exercise world that I’m super excited for. Run Life is just one facet of a bigger goal, which is to get everyone on the path to healthy living and exercising. At Fit Life, you’ll find the opportunity to hire a personal trainer for you or for small group sessions with friends or a spouse.. Really, the sky’s the limit and you get to decide what you need to get yourself motivated to be healthy.  If you have any questions at all about the program, please check out our website! New year, new start, right?
