Race Preview: The Inferno 2017 – The Swan Song

If you are a fan of obstacle course races, but not the mud – The Inferno is right up your alley.  The website states: “One thing that we will not compromise on is MUD! We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again, mud is NOT an obstacle! If you’re looking for a mud slide then this isn’t the race for you. But, if you’re looking for a challenge like no other then step right up to The Inferno!” Don’t miss out on this year’s event, as it is The Inferno’s swan song. Sadly, after 5 years, this local obstacle course race (OCR) will say goodbye.

This event has 3 distances to choose from. The short course is 3-4 miles with 15+ obstacles, the mid course is 6+ miles with 20+ obstacles and a distance swim, the long course is 13.1 miles with 30+ obstacles and a distance swim. The course maps show longer distances for the short and mid-course – with the mid course being close to 9 miles, however, it is unclear if the maps have been updated for 2017. If you just can’t get enough of this kind of event, consider the Skulls Challenge. Participants will complete the 13.1 mile course 2 times! In order to register for the Skulls Challenge you must first submit an athletic background and race history.

This OCR in Salem promises rugged terrain with hill climbs, sandbag carries, monkey bars, ropes, walls, tires, and more. Personally, I can’t wait for race day! I’m registering for the short course, as I’m not up for running much farther than 6 miles right now. I wish I could add in a few more obstacles and even the swim. But, sadly, the short course doesn’t have that option. Regardless, I’m excited to get in on the final year of The Inferno. It’s your last chance, friends! Don’t miss out!
