I’ve hiked up the trail to the top of Multnomah Falls several times throughout my life and each time, I have been super worn out by the time I reach the top. I have never once thought “Hey, I’d love to run up this trail! Let’s have a race here!” but maybe you have. Did you know there is a race that goes up and around the falls? Now you do! And if you are crazy enough to want to try it, you should definitely get signed up now for this 150 participants only race!
The Multnomah Falls Trail Run is a 5.9 race or for the more sane – a walk – that starts and finishes at Wahkeena Trailhead, heading out the Return Trail to Multnomah Falls, then up Larch Mt. Trail up and around Multnomah Falls. Turning onto Wahkeena Trail, the course runs the length of Vista Trail back down to Wahkeena Trail to complete the loop. Featuring five of the most photographed waterfalls in Oregon, there are steep inclines, and about 3600 feet of elevation change. The course ranges from paved trail to medium-to-difficult technical trail on soft sod, hard-pack dirt, and rock.
The Race has overall and age group winners and the walk has awards for all participants. You are not restricted – you can walk during the race or run during the walk. In addition, this race is known for its Superhero Costume Contest, which awards the fastest male and female participants dressed as superheroes with a fifth of local handcrafted whiskey. There is also a best costume award. Also, don’t forget about the amazing post-race soup to try! Yum!
