I grew up in a house with fairly sedentary parents and I never really got involved in sports in school in part because I never really felt encouraged to do so at home. When I discovered fitness as an adult and running became a passion soon after, I knew I would want my kids to someday see examples of a healthy lifestyle. Events like the Kids Obstacle Challenge on August 12th in Corbett are the perfect opportunity for this, and parents get to run with their kids for free!
The Kids Obstacle Challenge is the largest touring adventure and obstacle course event series for kids in the whole country. The 1-2 mile course is geared towards kids ages 5-16 years old and the obstacles include challenges such as a rope swing into a mud pit, scaling cargo nets, and army crawling through the muck. And as mentioned already, the whole family can get in on the fun, because parents can run the course with their kids free of charge.
Like other obstacle races, this one will have wave starts beginning at 8:30AM until 2:00PM. All participants will receive a race medal, event photos, a goodie bag, and snacks at the finish line. There is also the option of unlimited re-runs if you want to do it again and again for only $5 more.
You should plan on being prepared for this race by bringing your printed/electronic ticket confirmation, $5 cash to park, a change of clothes and shoes, and a water bottle. It’s also advised that you arrive 1 hour before your selected wave time.
You should also plan on getting muddy! This is not the event for you if you don’t want to get dirty. There will be shower stations onsite, so don’t forget your towel!
So get off the couch and into the mud. It will be an experience that your kids won’t forget and you’ll be cemented in their memories as a pretty cool parent too.
