Formerly known as the Volcano Valley Half, Run With Paula is moving this event to the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and aptly calling it the Memorial Day Half. The location remains the same, and I look forward to running the trails of Willamette Mission State Park again this year.
The park is set on the banks of the Willamette and is surrounded by hops and other fields. Access to the park requires a $5 day pass or the annual Oregon State Parks access pass. There is plenty of parking near the start/finish at picnic area B. Packet pickup and gear check will be available on race morning as well.
All three distances will start together at 8am. The 5k course is an out-and-back on paved roads within the park; the 10k starts the same as the 5k, but keeps going out of the park and running a big circle around it, two miles of it along the river. The half marathon is a double loop of the 10k with an added detour to arrive at the proper total distance. There will be aid stations every 1.5-2 miles offering water and glukos.
After the race, there will be barbecue served with a choice between hamburger and veggie burger, as well as Rogue beer for runners of legal drinking age. Award ceremony will take place after most participants have finished the race. A portion of the proceeds of the race will be donated to Marion-Polk Food Share.
Running in Honor of a loved one? Please consider running in honor of a special person in your life. We will have a second bib for you to wear honoring that person. Thank you for sharing this special day with us.
