If there was wine at the end of every run, I think there would be a lot more people lacing up their running shoes. If you like to run and you like wine, I have some good news for you … you can get both on February 19th at Road Runner Sports and again in September at Stoller Family Estate. But I’m getting ahead of myself … let me start at the beginning.
Recently, I met a number of other moms who, like me, wanted to get out of the house (and away from our kids) for a run; so I started up a Facebook group for a Sunday morning crew of running buddies. It was nothing fancy, just a place to post my plans for a Sunday run and to see if anyone wanted to join me. The next thing I knew, I had over 40 people in the group, with 8-10 people showing up most Sundays. One of my regular runners is Alexa Hasman, a friend and owner of the Baby Boot Camp stroller fitness group in SW Portland & Sherwood. Alexa just scored a running ambassador position with Destination Races, the race organization company that puts on The Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon (keep reading for a discount code for this race).
By now you you might be wondering … What does The Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon have to do with my Sunday Morning running group? Or with a group run where you get wine at the end? Well, as a running ambassador, Alexa gets the pleasure of coordinating the set up of wine stations with Destination Races for some pre-race training runs. What better place to do so than with her regular Sunday morning group of running friends?
So: If anyone reading this is interested in grabbing some wine after a nice Sunday morning run on February 19th, please come join us! The plan is to meet up at Road Runner Sports in Tualatin at 9:30AM and get a good 6 miles or so in before checking out running gear at the store and getting ready for some incredible wine which will be available around 11:30AM. It’s a great excuse to get out of the house and meet some fellow runners and a pretty decent way to start a Sunday morning.
What: Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon Gear Up! Run (click to RSVP on facebook)
Where: Road Runner Sports, 7063 SW Nyberg Street, Tualatin, OR
When: Sunday, February 19th, 9:30AM. Wine from Destination Races to follow at 11:30AM.
If you sign up for the Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon, you have the privilege of running a gorgeous course in the heart of Willamette Valley, starting at Stoller Family Estate and offering views of vineyards and orchards along the route, as well as some scenic residential areas. There’s even a wine stop at Lemelson Vineyards just before mile 9. Once you sail through the finish line and refuel and rehydrate, you can proceed to the Wine & Music Festival where you will be treated to more wine from various wineries. This event is held on September 3rd this year and you can get a discount when you register if you use the code “babybootcamp” when you are signing up.
