Race Preview: 2017 Valentine’s Heart & Sole 5k, 10k, & 1 Mile Run/Walk

Looking for a good run to do around Valentine’s Day that’s fun for the whole family? The 3rd annual Valentine’s Heart and Sole Run/Walk in Canyonville, Ore. on Saturday February 11th has a little something for the whole family. There’s a 1 mile run/walk starting at 9:30AM for all ages and there’s also a 5k and 10k run/walk that starts at 10:00AM, perfect timing if you want to participate in both.

As a runner with kids who know “mommy needs to run,” I look forward to more events like this in our future, so my sons can be as much a part of the running experience as I am. This is a great option for you and your kids to participate at a very affordable price. No kids? No problem there either! The race is just $20 for the 10k, $15 for the 5k, and $5 for the 1 miler for the “12 and under” crowd. (Cost is $10 for the 1 miler if over 12 years old.) Price will increase $5 after 1/31 and there’s a small sign up fee for each race.

This race, put on by Canyonville Christian Academy’s senior class, starts at Canyonville’s new Community Center and runs through town toward scenic Gazley Road. There is a good mix of flat and hilly terrain for the longer distances, and the 1 miler is mostly flat. The old Canyonville Primary Campus will be closed to traffic to allow for the race, other than the main street which will have a crossing guard. If you’d like to see the course, you can view the 1 mile course here, the 5k course here, and the 10k course here. (And if you’re wondering where Canyonville is, it’s between Roseburg and Grants Pass in Southern Oregon.)

This race will have a fun photo booth and some refreshments waiting at the end. All distances are chip timed and there are water stations for all races. There will also be an awards ceremony at the end. For the 1 mile race, medals will be given to top boy and girl (12 and under) and ribbons will be given to boy and girl for ages 4 and under, 5-8, 9-12, 13-19, and 19 and over. For the 5k and 10k, medals will be given to the top 3 male and female runners and ribbons will go to top male and female in each age group.

The senior class of Canyonville Christian Academy hopes to see you out there!
