Race Recap: 2017 PRC Winter 5K Series #2

The January Winter 5K went off without a hitch. Reported start temperatures were between 18-20 degrees. With the wind chill, we had it at 8 degrees!

Blogger Geli snapped this amazing picture mid-race. This truly is an accurate representation of how beautiful the course was.

The second 5K of the PRC Winter Race Series caused Déjà vu (that is, if you participated in the first race in December) with snow and ice on the ground and freezing temps. While it was a bit of a bummer to have the icy white stuff still around, the sun was out and everyone was happy. Believe it or not, this race had an attendance with an increase of 10% up from the last race. The energy inside PRC was palpable and everyone was chatting while helping themselves to Glukos energy chews, hot cocoa or coffee.

The course was very slick and many participants brought traction for their shoes. Race Director Paula even had (experienced) volunteers putting screws in participants shoes for a nominal fee. Side note: the YakTrax I had purchased at PRC were not delivered in time due to a mix-up,so I opted to have screws put in the bottom of my shoes and they worked well, so well that I was able to jog/run the whole time, save for a few very treacherous spots. I highly recommend trying out this option if you ever need to. Just make sure you visit my post here with a link to a tutorial on how to do it properly, so you won’t ruin your shoes or injure yourself in the process.

Come join us for the final race on February 18th at 9:00am. The last race is a predict race-which means no watches or timing devices of any kind-even cell phones. Prizes are awarded for runners who accurately predict their time, or are in range of their prediction. Per usual, a fantastic breakfast will be provided post-run and Dave Harkin will be raffling off socks, sweatshirts, hats, gift cards and possibly a pair of shoes or two; you just never know!
