Race Preview: 2016 Beat Beethoven’s 5k (Bend)

The second annual Beat Beethoven's 5k takes place in Bend on Sunday, August 21st. The premise is simple: When the 5k starts, Beethoven's 5th symphony starts playing. Your goal is to finish the race before the symphony is done, approximately 33 minutes later. This event is a fundraiser for the Central Oregon Symphony and is held at the Central Oregon Community College track. Register by July 31 to avoid the next price increase and to be guaranteed a shirt (the snazziest running shirt you'll ever own!).

The 5k race begins and ends at the COCC track and runs through neighboring streets. The course is paved and mostly flat. The 1k race starts shortly after the 5k and stays on the track for the entire distance (2.5 laps). The kids run is one lap on the track (400m; 1/4 mile).

There will be a costume contest (dress as your favorite musician or composer), photo-ops with Beethoven himself, awards for the top three overall finishers male/female as well as in age groups, raffle prizes, and more. The course is stroller friendly, but please leave your furry friends at home.

thanks for previewing the Beat Beethoven’s 5th 5k & 1 mile race in Bend Aug. 21. Hope to see lots of you at the race!

  2. Seems like a neat event. Too bad it wasn’t previewed untll August 3, a couple days after the entry fees went up to a steep $40 for a 5K (and $30 for a 1K?) and after the “snazziest” T-shirts are no longer guaranteed.
