Race Preview: 2016 Uphill Challenge (Mount Hood Meadows)

Uphill Challenge

Many people enjoy new challenges, and some people (I hear) enjoy running uphill. If that’s you, then the Uphill Challenge at Mount Hood Meadows on August 20th is just the right thing for you. As one of its summer events, the ski resort invites runners to try themselves at running 1.2 miles (about 2k) up the slopes, then taking the lift back down again.

Registration starts at 8am on race morning, and pre-registration is available online. The race itself starts at 10am in the parking lot of the main lodge at MHM. Runners and walkers take gravel mountain roads up the hill, arriving at the top of the Stadium chairlift after completing the 1.2 mile course with 621 feet of elevation gain. Participants can then take the lift back down to the finish area, where they can enjoy a BBQ celebration (starting at 11am) and drinks from Backwoods Brewing Co.

Course records are kept for each age category – starting at ages 5 to 9, and increasing by 5 years all the way to 100+.
