Roseburg Race Previews: Umpqua River Run (8/20/16) and Focus on Hope 5k (8/28/16)

These two Roseburg races were previewed by Jessica Mumme and Geli Heidelberger. Jessica: Presented by The Friends of the Boys and Girls Club and The City of Roseburg Parks Department, the Umpqua River Run will take place on Saturday, August 20, 2016 in Roseburg, Oregon this year. This event supports the Boys & Girls Club of the Umpqua Valley.  New this year, the start/finish will now be at Stewart Park in Roseburg. Roseburg is about 70 miles south of Eugene, and is a real treasure! I strongly encourage you to participate in the event - then go tour the myriad of wineries in the area. You know me, I'm all about running and wine! Activities abound in the Umpqua Valley, so bring the family!

Participants may choose from three distances at the Umpqua River Run; a half marathon, 10K or 5K. There will be a Kids Marathon Final Mile taking place, too. The half marathon course will travel along multi-use paths, through neighborhoods and along stunning country roads. Along the course, you will enjoy spectacular views of the Umpqua River. Aid stations will be spaced about every 1-2 miles, and feature water and Gatorade. GU will be available at approximately the 8 mile mark, and first aid/portable restrooms will be on the course at about mile 5, 10 and the finish line. For those choosing the 10K or 5K run or walk event, you will be traveling along the Stewart Park multi-used paths. The Kid’s Final Mile will be an out-and-back within the Stewart Park multi-use paths, as well.

Race day begins at 6 a.m. when packet pick-up opens. The half marathon will take to the course at 7:30 a.m., with the 10K run/walk starting at 7:45 a.m., and the 5K run/walk at 8 a.m. Umpqua River Festival will open at 8:30 a.m. The Kids Marathon Final Mile will take place at 9:30 a.m., with the awards ceremony at 10 a.m. and courses closing at 11 a.m. Dogs are not allowed on the course. Baby strollers/joggers are allowed in the 10K or 5K.

Registration is currently $50 for the half marathon and $35 for the 10K or 5K through August 13. If registering by August 1, secure an event t-shirt for an additional $15.
