Race Preview: 2016 XTERRA PDX Epic Off Road Weekend

Looking for an exciting weekend event for the super elite or for the weekend warrior? XTERRA PDX will have something for everyone with the Epic Off Road Weekend coming up August 6th and 7th at the beautiful and challenging trails of Hagg Lake. Bring the kids on August 6th for the Kids Splash Pedal Dash while you take part in the Triathlon, Duathlon, relay, or Sprint Tri. Since I am unable to swim, you're more likely to see me on Sunday the 7th for the amazing (and technical) trail races.

All finishers will receive a finisher’s award to commemorate your accomplishment. When I participated in 2013, we received a really cool stainless pint glass that (those over 21 yrs old) could be filled with beer from the beer garden. There will be pizza, over $1,000 worth of raffle prizes, games, and awards for the top placing athletes.

The course maps for Saturday is available online and the course descriptions for Sunday’s trail runs include terms such as “roots”, “ruts”, “rocks” and “hilly”. Don’t let that be off putting as the scenery is completely worth every challenge and obstacle you might face.  Along with some technical trail, runners will enjoy open meadows, old growth forests and shade from the trees’ canopy, foot bridges, and a heart pumping, exhilarating, sense of accomplishment.  I am not one likely to (ever) finish in my age group or be a “top finisher” but whenever I think of my XTERRA 10K, I still feel a little thrill about completing it.  (I did get first place, however, for wearing the most XTERRA temporary tattoos.)

XTERRA’s sponsors at On, 10 Barrel and Papa Murphys are coming together to host a pre-race party, demo run and registration event on Thursday 7/21 on the On HQ in downtown Portland. Make sure you check it out.

About Robin York (146 Articles)
Robin grew up as a couch potato and did everything she could to get out of exercise, until one day a good friend would not stop talking about this fun 5k race she was doing. Finally Robin got off the couch and trained for this "fun" race using C25K (couch to 5k program). After crossing that first finish line, she kept going and became a "runner". After losing 80 lbs, gaining health, a love of being active and setting a healthy example for her husband and kids, she thinks she'll stick with this whole "running thing".
