Race Preview: 2016 Deschutes Dash 5k/10k (Bend)

The Deschutes Dash 5k and 10k races take place in Bend on Saturday, July 16th as part of the Deschutes Dash Multisport weekend. Besides the running events, there are sprint and Olympic distance triathlons, aquabike and duathlon, a youth triathlon, and a kids splash-and-dash obstacle race.

There are many different events and distances, therefore the overall schedule for the race day is complicated. However, both of the run-only events start together at 9am at Riverbend Park, using the same course as the sprint and Olympic triathlons, respectively. The 5k course is a loop with an aid/water station at mile 1.5; the 10k course uses the same course but adds an out-and-back, and it has aid stations at mile points 1.5, 3, and 4.5.

Since the multi-sport events start at 8am, 5k/10k participants will be able to watch swimmers come out of the water and transition to the bike, and probably also see the top sprint triathletes transition to the run. This is a great opportunity for runners to observe the beauty of multisport events and consider trying it themselves. The location and mapping of the event also makes it great for spectators.
